Description
No 5 Peel Square is a public house that is part of a row of buildings, dating from the late 19th century. It is constructed of ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has three storeys and three bays, designed in an Italianate style. The ground floor is rusticated and has quoins. To the left, there is a segmental-headed carriage entrance with voussoirs and a large panelled keystone, which has been partially blocked with a 20th-century doorway. The building has sash windows throughout.
On the ground floor, there are tripled windows to the right, each with segmental-headed lights, elongated dropped panelled keystones, and aprons. A cornice runs along the ground floor. The first and second floors are symmetrical, featuring round-arched windows on the first floor with architraves, pilasters, carved motifs in the spandrels, deep friezes, and cornices. The second-floor windows are segmental-headed with eared and shouldered architraves and long keystones, all set on a sill band. The building is topped with a heavily modillioned moulded eaves cornice and a parapet.
This property is included for its group value.
