Description
No 1 Queen Street is a late 18th-century shop premises located on the south side of Queen Street in Barnsley. The building is constructed from coursed squared rubble, which is painted, and features a Welsh slate roof. It stands three storeys tall with a single-bay front and a four-bay right elevation, situated on a corner site. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop frontage.
On the first floor, there is a Venetian window with a shallow moulded cornice, while the second floor features a tripartite window, also with a shallow moulded cornice, that includes 9-pane sash windows. The building is topped with a modillioned pediment. The right elevation also has a 20th-century ground-floor shop frontage, with sash windows on the first and second floors, some of which have glazing bars and others that are blind. Moulded brackets support the gutter.
