Description
Dunnington Lodge and the attached stables and coach house were originally built as a rectory and cottage, and they now serve as a care home. Constructed between 1823 and 1824, the building features red brick and a slate roof, and it is two stories tall.
The symmetrical front facade has three windows and bracketed wooden eaves. The central doorway includes a panel door with a four-light overlight, framed by painted baseless fluted Doric columns. On either side of the doorway are single glazing bar sash windows, with three similar sashes located above. The former cottage to the right has a single doorway, also with an overlight, and a smaller sash window on each floor.
The rear facade features a central porch, with a canted late 19th-century bay window to the right and a 20th-century casement window to the left. Above this, there are three glazing bar sash windows.
Attached to the right wall is a link that connects the former cottage to the stable. The stable has raised gables and pantile roofs, with a gable end facing the street that has a blank ground floor and a loft door above, as well as a circular pitching hole at the apex. The courtyard front includes a plank door with an overlight, a small window to the right, and a plank stable door beyond that. The interior of the stable retains wooden loose boxes and a feeding trough. The walls link the stable to the coach house on the opposite side of the yard. The coach house features a large pair of carriage doors with a segmental brick arch and plank doors, along with a pair of cart doors with a wooden lintel to the right.
