Description
Danesmead is a house built in 1904 by Walter Bierley. It is constructed of red brick and features a Westmorland slate roof with three tall stacks. The building has a brick plinth and a double first-floor band, and it stands two stories with attics.
The street front has six windows arranged in a pattern of 1:1:2:1:1, along with three large gables. The central two-bay section has a projecting gabled timber-framed porch on the left, which has brick nogging, and on the right, there is a single 15-pane sash window. Above this porch, there are two similar 12-pane sash windows. On either side of the central section, there are two-storey square brick bays with wooden coving and flat lead roofs. The left bay features a tall 6-light cross casement stair window, while the right bay has a 15-pane sash window and a 3-light casement window above. There are single 12-pane sashes on either side and similar sashes above.
The south gable front includes a glazed doorway on the right with an overlight, and to the left, there is a single canted brick bay window with a central 15-pane sash and flanking 10-pane sashes. The rear of the house has irregular fenestration and a large external stepped brick stack on the right.
Inside, the house retains almost all of its original features, including a turned baluster staircase, doors, doorcases, plaster coving, and a very fine 18th-century style fireplace.
