Description
The Leeman Statue is a statue unveiled in 1885, created by sculptor GW Milburn. It is made of white marble and stands on a pedestal of red granite. The statue depicts a life-size standing figure on a square pedestal with a moulded cap and base. The west side of the pedestal is inscribed with the name 'GEORGE LEEMAN', while the east side notes that the statue was erected by public subscription. Alderman George Leeman was the Chairman of the North Eastern Railway Company and served as Lord Mayor of York three times.
