Description
The gates, gate piers, and railings to the Old Station forecourt in York were constructed around 1850. They were designed by G.T. Andrews for the York and North Midland Railway Company and manufactured by the Walker Foundry. The gates and railings are made of cast iron, while the gate piers are built from ashlar stone. The gate piers are rectangular in shape and feature moulded cornices beneath shallow pyramidal caps, with one cap topped by a foliate gas light standard with a crossbar. The double gates consist of turned railings with leaf bud tips and bands of rosettes forming the middle and top rails. The turned railings have spear tips and are set on a low stone plinth.
