Description
These three pairs of carriage gates and two wicket gates date from around 1900 and were originally built for the North Eastern Railway Company. They lead to the former railway offices. The gates are wrought iron, set on moulded stone bases to the gate standards. The carriage gates have square-section railings, incorporating decorative panels of scrolled lyre motifs and arabesques, topped with urn finials. The standards themselves are of a similar openwork design, tapering to shallow pyramidal caps with orb finials. The wicket gates also feature arabesque panels and orb finials.
