Description
Numbers 3 and 4 are a pair of mid-19th century houses located on Tower Street in York, featuring gates and railings attached to the front. The houses are constructed of pink and grey mottled brick in Flemish bond, with timber doorcases and an eaves cornice. They have brick stacks and a slate roof. The front is flanked by painted cast-iron railings and gates set on a brick wall with painted stone coping.
The buildings have a basement and three storeys, with a five-window front. Steps lead up to the doorcases, which have plain pilasters, elongated console heads, and moulded cornice hoods. The door to number 3 has six sunk panels, while the door to number 4 has six fielded panels in fluted surrounds with angle rosettes, both featuring overlights. The ground floor windows of number 3 are four-pane sashes, while number 4 has two-pane upper sashes over one-pane lower sashes. The upper floors of both houses have twelve-pane sashes, with the centre window of number 3 blocked. All windows are adorned with painted stone sills and cambered arches.
The interior has not been inspected. The subsidiary features include railings on a low wall that are turned, with turned standards.
