Description
Postern House is an early 19th-century house located in York. It is constructed of red-grey brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring a timber doorcase and eaves cornice, along with brick end stacks and a Welsh slate roof. The house has a central-entry plan and a two-storey front with two windows. The central doorcase is supported by engaged fluted Doric columns and has a beaded panelled frieze with a cornice hood. Two steps lead up to the door, which consists of six raised and fielded panels and is topped by a margin-glazed overlight, set within an incised panelled reveal. The windows are 16-pane sashes with renewed sills and flat arches made of gauged brick. The first-floor windows are accented by a dentilled and bracketed cornice. Additionally, there is a Yorkshire Insurance firemark dated 1824 on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
