Description
Western House and the Surgery is a doctor's house built between 1909 and 1914, with an extension added in 1986. It was designed by Parker and Unwin for the Joseph Rowntree Village Trust. The building features pebbledashed brick and a French tile roof, and is L-shaped in plan. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. On the left side, there is a round-arched porch with tile trim that contains a round-arched door. To the left of the porch, there is a plate-glass casement window. The right wing of the house projects forward and includes a pair of 2-light casement windows. On the first floor, there are two 2-light casements to the left and another pair of 2-light casements to the right. The roof has sprocketed eaves and is half-hipped, with ridge stacks. The surgery is a single storey and features a pair of 2-light fixed windows on the north facade and a 2-light casement window on the gable end.
