Description

Number 5 is an 18th-century manse, formerly a house, and its front railings and gates, which now serve as offices. It may have been designed by GT Andrews. The front of the building is constructed of pink-grey mottled brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a brick plinth. Ashlar is used for the doorcase and decorative banding, and there's a brick frieze beneath a coved timber eaves cornice supported by shaped brackets. The roof is hipped, covered in slate, and features a brick stack. The rear and left side are built of brick in an English garden-wall bond.

The building has a two-story, three-bay front with a two-story, one-bay wing to the left. Steps lead to a plain pilastered and corniced doorcase, containing a four-panel door and a semicircular fanlight. The first-floor central window is a 12-pane sash, and flanking windows on both floors are paired 12-pane sashes. All windows have cambered heads and flat brick arches. Sill bands are present at ground and first floor levels, with a raised band to the first floor. The wing has a three-light canted bay window on the ground floor with 1-pane sashes, and an unequal 9-pane sash on the first floor, both with stone sills and cambered heads beneath flat arches. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.

The front railings and gate posts are turned, with railings featuring tapering concave-sided tips. The gate posts have bulbous bases and ball finials. The terminal pier has a moulded cornice beneath a pyramidal cap. The stone plinth on the left side terminates in a brick pier with an ashlar cap.
