Description
The Leadbetter Monument is a grave cross located in York Cemetery, dating from 1841. It was created by the John Walker Foundry for the Leadbetter family grave. The monument features a cast-iron cross set on an octagonal stone pedestal, which has a moulded base and capping. The cross itself has a tapered octagonal shaft with boss-like terminals at the ends of the arms, and the center is pierced by an open quatrefoil design. This monument is one of the earliest in the cemetery and is depicted on an isometric plan from 1843.
