YORK DUNCOMBE PLACE (North West side) Nos.4, 5 AND 6 Dean Court Hotel (part) and railings attached to front steps

GV II

Three houses, now part of hotel: railings attached to front steps. Mid C18, subdivided in early C19; remodelled in 1976. Early C19 railings. Buff-pink mottled brick in Flemish bond on brick plinth; timber doorcase and guttering: pantile roof, hipped at left end, with brick stacks. EXTERIOR: 3-storey 4-bay front. Flight of steps with flat handrail reset on turned standards leads to doorcase of plain pilasters and open pediment: door of 6 raised and fielded panels and radial fanlight over impost band recessed in panelled reveal. On ground floor windows are 16-pane sashes; on first floor 16-pane sashes flank 3-light segmental bow window with 12-pane sashes: on second floor, four sashes, to left one unequal 9-pane sash and three 12-pane sashes. Moulded guttering on paired modillions. Ground and first floor sashes have flat arches of orange gauged brick cut by 4-course raised brick bands to first and second floors. INTERIOR: not inspected.
