Description
Turpin's grave is located approximately 50 meters from the entrance to St George's churchyard in York. This headstone, dating from the early 20th century, commemorates Dick Turpin. It is made of stone and is a roughly dressed monolith about 0.6 meters high, featuring an elliptical head with painted and incised lettering. The inscription reads: "John Palmer otherwise Richard Turpin. The notorious highwayman and horse stealer executed at Tyburn April 7th 1739 and buried in St George's Churchyard." This grave is included for its historic interest.
