Description
No. 13 Blake Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the mid-18th century and features an early 19th-century bow window, a late 19th-century dormer, and a 20th-century shopfront. The building is constructed of orange-brown brick laid in Flemish bond, with orange brick dressings. It has a timber moulded and modillioned eaves cornice, a gabled dormer with a 2-light Yorkshire sash window, and a slate roof.
The exterior consists of three storeys and an attic, with a two-bay front. The shopfront includes a deep fascia and a vestigial cornice, with a shop door that has brass fittings, a shaped panel, and glazing featuring a frosted glass cartouche embossed with the shop name. To the right of the door is a plate glass window. The first floor has a shallow bow window with 8:12:8-pane sash windows, a sill, and a slight moulded cornice. On the second floor, there are two unequal 9-pane sash windows set in brick quoined openings, with painted sills and gauged brick arches. A 5-course raised brick band is present at the second floor level.
At the rear, the building also has three storeys and an attic, with a three-storey projecting wing that has a flat roof. On the third floor, there is a 4-pane sash window, and in the attic, there is a 2x6-pane casement window. The interior has not been inspected, but records from the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England mention an original staircase with turned balusters and a moulded handrail.
