Description

22 Clifton Green is a house built in 1839, featuring later alterations. It is designed in a Gothic cottage style, with a painted roughcast exterior and a slate roof. The building has one storey plus an attic. On the ground floor, there are wide bay windows with casements that include glazing bars, and a continuous lead and glass roof that creates a central open porch. The attic is illuminated by two gabled dormers, which have casements with glazing bars set in pointed arches with moulded surrounds. The front door is recessed and has a moulded timber Tudor-arched surround, featuring five narrow panels with trefoiled heads, glazed with coloured leaded glass. The gables have projecting verges and gable chimneys. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Nos 22 and 23 Clifton Green were constructed on land purchased by Seth Agar, a grocer, during the sale of the De Grey estate in 1836, by joiners George and Eli Horsfall. This building is included for its group value with other structures on Clifton Green.
