Description

Three houses at 8, 10, and 12 Water End date to the late 17th and 18th centuries. Number 8 was built in the late 17th century and was refronted in the late 18th century. Numbers 10 and 12 were built in the late 18th century. The houses are constructed of painted brick with a pantiled roof. They have two storeys plus attics, with a continuous string course across the facades. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with louvred shutters to the ground floor.

Number 8 is of two bays, with a central doorway and two attic dormers. The dormers are sash windows with shaped gable bargeboards. The doorcase has pilasters with a sunken convex moulding, curved brackets, a frieze with a raised border, and a plain cornice hood. The door has six raised and fielded panels. Number 10 is of one bay with a door to the right and has a similar attic dormer to those on Number 8. The door has six raised and fielded panels, and timber brackets support a simple pitched lead-covered hood. Number 12 is of two bays, with a doorway in the left-hand bay and a single attic dormer. The door has two glazed panels above four raised and fielded panels, and a shallow-pitched hood is supported on timber brackets and covered with 20th-century shingles. The gables are coped. Chimneys are located to each side of Number 8, and chimney stacks are between Numbers 10 and 12.

The interiors were not inspected, but records indicate that Number 8 originally contained an original staircase with turned balusters, square newels, and a moulded handrail, though it has since been moved from its original position.
