Description

127 The Mount is a house built in 1833, with alterations made around 1930 and restoration completed in 1992. The building features yellow brick with painted stone dressings and a hipped slate roof. It has two storeys above cellars and consists of three bays, with the central bay slightly projecting. The outer bays have single-storey canted bay windows with bracketed cornices and sashes that do not have glazing bars. The base of the left-hand window is partially cut into by a 20th-century cellar doorway. The first-floor windows are glazing bar sashes with rubbed brick flat arches and a sill band. A timber porch with paired pilasters and a modillioned cornice supports a balcony, which is adorned with cast-iron railings featuring anthemion decoration. The inner door has panelled reveals and an overlight with margin panes. The eaves cornice is modillioned and includes a triangular pediment above the central bay, with chimneys located to the left and right.

Inside, the cellars contain a room at the front left that was formerly converted into a garage and still has a wooden car turntable in place. The ground floor features a staircase leading to the first floor, with slender turned balusters and a moulded handrail that is wreathed at the foot around a shaped curtail step. Original plasterwork is preserved in all the main rooms, and some original fireplaces remain on the first floor and in the attics.
