Description
The Homestead is a house located on Front Street in Naburn, likely dating from the early to mid-16th century, with later additions and alterations, including a partial rebuilding of the brick shell in the late 20th century. The structure is timber-framed and encased in pinkish-brown brick, topped with a pantile roof. It originally had a double-aisled plan, with the front aisle occupying only the right half. The house is a single storey with an attic and consists of three bays. The entrance is a late 20th-century six-panel door. The windows are unequally-hung 18-pane tripartite sashes set under soldier and elliptical arches, along with three late 20th-century roof dormers featuring unequally-hung 12-pane sashes. The building has ridge and end stacks.
Inside, much of the timber frame is visible, including a front arcade post on a padstone, rear jowled arcade posts on padstones, arched braces to tie beams, and an arcade plate with three scarf joints. There is a chamfered spine beam and a transverse beam with chamfer stops, along with exposed joists and a bressumer above the fireplace.
