Description
This is a sundial located approximately 25 metres south-east of the Church of St Nicholas, dating from the 18th century, with lower steps added in the 20th century. It is made of limestone ashlar, featuring concrete lower steps. The sundial has a square plan for the lower steps surrounding an original octagonal base that consists of three steps with moulded nosing. It supports a bulbous shaft with a moulded octagonal base and a moulded top that displays an inscribed sundial and gnomon. The sundial has a worn inscription that reads:
"Watch for you know not the Hour William (illegible date) Bird London."
There is a drawing of the sundial by C Nattes from 1794 in the Banks Collection at Lincoln City Library.
