Description

The Cottage and the house adjoining to the left are a house and cottage located in Garthorpe, dating from the early 18th century, with a later 18th to 19th-century cottage addition. The buildings are constructed of brick and are covered in stucco, with pantiled roofs. The main house has a layout featuring two rooms with a central lobby entry and stairs in a rear outshut, while the cottage to the right has a single room with an entrance hall on the left.

The main range is two storeys high and has two first-floor windows, along with a two-storey, single-window addition. It features a 20th-century half-glazed door, 12-pane sliding sash windows on the ground floor, and similar but slightly smaller sliding sashes on the first floor. There is a ground-floor sill band, and both the door and windows have moulded surrounds with raised keys and quoined borders. Above the door is a small circular panel, and there is a dentilled brick eaves cornice. The gables are stone-coped with shaped kneelers, although the coping on the left has been restored. A central axial stack is present.

The later 18th to 19th-century addition is set back to the right and features a half-glazed door and single small sashes with margin lights on each floor, all in moulded surrounds similar to the main range, along with a dentilled brick eaves cornice and an end stack. Inside the main range, there is a blocked basket-arched fireplace on the ground floor to the left and four fielded-panel doors.
