Description
The Old Police Station is a Grade II listed building located in Kirton in Lindsey, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of dressed limestone with tooled ashlar dressings, featuring a red brick cornice and stack, and has a slate roof. The building is U-shaped in plan, with a former sergeant's house at the front. It stands two storeys tall and has three symmetrical bays, with raised quoins.
The central projecting porch includes a plinth, quoins, and a 20th-century plank door topped by a radial fanlight, all set within a raised ashlar surround that has moulded imposts and a keystone. The windows are 12-pane sashes with raised surrounds, and there is a dentilled brick cornice along the top. The roof is hipped. The building presents its gable end to Spa Hill, while the right return, which housed former offices and cells, features similar windows and a recessed part-glazed door with a moulded architrave and a hood supported by brackets. The materials used for this building were sourced from a late 18th-century prison. It is included in the listing for its group value.
