Description
St John's Well is a well-house primarily from the 19th century, though it has earlier origins. It features 20th-century doors and is constructed from roughly-coursed ironstone rubble, with ashlar imposts and a lintel above the opening, which is fitted with wrought-iron doors. The roof is roughly gabled and made of rubble. Inside, there is a stone water-trough. The well-house is adjacent to a rubble garden wall at the rear, which is not of special interest. This structure is a rare type in the region and is traditionally linked to the Knights Templars, who owned the manor of Bottesford during the Middle Ages.
