Description
The Infants School, built in 1837 and extended in 1875, is a single-storey structure with an attic, designed in a Tudor style. It features dressed limestone with yellow brick dressings and a slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan, with the classroom range extending to the rear. The front is asymmetrical with irregular fenestration.
The entrance is located to the left of the center, accessed by stone steps and framed by a double-chamfered Tudor-arched brick surround. At the time of the re-survey, the door was boarded up. Above the entrance is a diamond-shaped stone plaque with an inscribed shield. To the left of the entrance is a single-light casement window, while to the right is a boarded-up three-light brick-mullioned window, with a single-light half-dormer above it. All windows feature double-chamfered brick surrounds.
The building has stepped brick kneelers and stone-coped gables on the dormer and roof. There is a lateral stack at the rear and a single-light attic window on the left return. The single-storey rear wing, made of similar materials, has five bays, two doors (one located in a later rendered porch), and three- and two-light mullioned windows. At the time of the re-survey, the school was empty and disused.
