Description

The Methodist Chapel, built in 1840 and extended around 1900, is a Wesleyan Chapel located on the north side of Wesley Street in Kirton in Lindsey. It features a yellow brick front with ashlar dressings, while the plinth, sides, and rear are made of squared limestone with red brick window arches. The roof is slate and the chapel is designed in a Classical Revival style.

The building has a rectangular plan, is two storeys high, and consists of three symmetrical bays. The plinth is prominent, and the central entrance bay is flanked by pilasters with moulded capitals that support a plain entablature with a moulded fillet and cornice, topped with a coped parapet. A flight of steps leads to a pair of recessed doors set in an ashlar architrave, with a recessed rectangular panel above that bears a heavily-weathered inscription. This is flanked by 16-pane sash windows in similar surrounds. There is a three-course brick band across the first floor, which also features similar windows. The roof is hipped at the rear and includes two cylindrical lanterns with conical caps.

Inside, the sanctuary contains the original gallery, which has a moulded base and cornice supported by tapered columns. The ceiling features a moulded cornice and a central rose adorned with Classical-style floral decoration. The interior also includes later 19th-century pews and a pulpit.
