Description

Raventhorpe Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with an 18th-century rear wing and a mid-19th-century garden front on the left. The 17th and 18th-century sections are built from limestone rubble, while the 19th-century section is made of brick and rendered throughout. The earlier sections have pantiles, and the later parts have a slate roof. There are brick stacks on the building. The 17th-century section has a two-cell lobby entrance plan and is two storeys high. The central entrance features a part-glazed door under a segmental arch, flanked by 19th-century two-light sash windows. Above, there are three 20th-century casements, with a smaller casement to the left. The roof is tall and steeply pitched, hipped, and truncated by the wing on the left, which has a central stack. The gable end of the wing features two sashes with glazing bars. The left side of the building forms the garden front, which is symmetrical and also two storeys high with three bays. It has a 20th-century part-glazed door with a plain fanlight beneath a round-headed keyed stucco arch. The windows are 12-pane sashes with stucco cambered arches and cills. The gables are stone-coped with stepped kneelers and end stacks. Inside, the 17th-century section retains boxed-in beams and parts of a pegged oak clasped-purlin roof.
