Description
Stone Cottage and the adjoining outbuildings date from the early to mid-19th century. The structure is built from squared limestone and coursed rubble, with brick stacks and a pantile roof. The house features a two-room central entrance-hall plan, with an outhouse extension to the right and a rear outshut. It is two storeys high and has two first-floor windows, creating a symmetrical appearance, with a single-storey range of outbuildings to the right. The building has quoins and a plain board door set beneath a cambered arch, which is sheltered by a plain open timber porch. To the right, there is a three-light sliding sash window with glazing bars, also beneath a cambered arch, while to the left is a 20th-century three-light casement window in a similar opening. On the first floor, there are two 12-pane sliding sash windows with lintels positioned at eaves level. The roof is swept, and there are end stacks. The outbuildings to the right feature three board doors, one of which is half-glazed, all with lintels at eaves level, and there is an axial stack. This building is a good example of a self-built small-holder's house constructed from local limestone.
