Description

The building consists of a barn and house located approximately 65 metres north of Westcote Farmhouse in Barrow Upon Humber. The barn, dating from the late 18th century, was built for George Uppleby of Barrow Hall, and it is accompanied by a later 18th to early 19th century house on the right and a 19th century extension on the left, likely an engine house. The right gable end of the barn was rebuilt in the 20th century, and there have been alterations to the house.

Constructed from brick with pantile roofs, the structure is rectangular in plan. The barn on the left has two storeys and four irregular bays, with a single-storey extension to the left at the front that rises to two storeys at the rear. The house features two low storeys with an attic and four irregular bays.

The barn's entrance is a board door located to the right of centre beneath a timber lintel, flanked by two slit vents and a 20th century casement window to the right. To the left, there is a board hatch door and 20th century double garage doors. The first floor of the barn includes three board hatch doors, a blocked opening to the left, and a sliding sash window with glazing bars to the right. It has a stepped and cogged brick eaves cornice, with brick coped and tumbled gables, and a mid-roof stack from the 19th century to the right. The left extension features large double doors, a lean-to roof with a brick coped and tumbled gable, and a dentilled brick cornice with a stone-coped parapet on the higher section to the rear.

The house has a round-arched entrance to the left with a painted keystone and imposts, leading to a recessed board door. Two 20th century casements have been inserted into former round-arched openings to the right, along with an inserted board door with a plain overlight at the right end. The first floor has a 12-pane sliding sash window above the entrance, two blocked openings, and a louvred hatch to the right. The house features a stepped and dentilled brick eaves cornice, with two raking dormers that have casements and rendered cheeks. An axial stack is present, and the rear, which faces Barrow Hall, includes a blocked round-arched door, two circular panels, and two round-arched windows for the house and adjoining section of the barn.

Inside the barn, there is a pegged clasped purlin roof supported by large roughly-dressed trunks for the tie beams.
