88 And 90, Paragon Street

Nos. 88 and 90 on Paragon Street in Kingston upon Hull are offices that have been adapted for use as both offices and a shop. Designed by architects Gelder & Kitchen around 1914, the building features late 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of brick with an ashlar front and has a plain tile mansard roof with a coped side wall stack, showcasing a Classical Revival style.

The building has a plinth, a ground floor band, and rusticated angle pilasters. It is topped with a dentillated main cornice and a coped parapet that includes balustrade panels. The structure rises three storeys plus attics and has a three-window range. The first and second floors are distinguished by giant Ionic columns, with three recessed Venetian windows between them. These windows feature glazing bar sashes, pilasters, bracketed cornices, and central segmental pediments, with central lights that have double keystones. Above these, there are three tripartite glazing bar sashes with pilasters, and above that, three corniced box dormers, each containing three sashes.

The ground floor has a central cove-moulded entrance that is framed by a rusticated surround and topped with a round-arched hood supported by scroll brackets. It includes a glazed door with panelled sidelights and a fanlight. On either side of the entrance, there is a single shop front that has been altered in the late 20th century.
