Description
The gateway and boundary walls at the General Cemetery in Kingston upon Hull were built in 1847 by architect Cuthbert Brodrick. Constructed from ashlar and yellow brick with stone dressings, the gateway features three cross-gabled Gothic piers that have cusped ogee-headed niches and stepped broaches topped with finials. There is a pair of large traceried cast-iron gates, along with a smaller single gate to the right. The adjoining boundary wall is incurved, with chamfered coping and closely spaced brick piers that have rockfaced stone caps. This structure represents an early work of the well-known architect.
