Description
The property at 1 High Street, Snaith, is a late 18th-century house, now used as a combined house and shop. It has undergone alterations in the mid- to late 19th century and later. The building is constructed of brown brick with rendered stacks and has a concrete tile roof. Originally, the plan consisted of a two-room central entrance hall with a through-passage on the left; the right half is now occupied by a shop. The shop front incorporates the original house entrance with a 20th-century door on the left, a recessed shop entrance with a glazed door within a panelled reveal, and a window with three elliptically-arched lights beneath a plain frieze, cornice, and hood supported by decorative scrolled consoles. To the left of the shopfront is a 19th-century plate-glass sash window set within an original flush wooden architrave, featuring a projecting sill and a painted rubbed-brick flat arch with a projecting ashlar keystone. A boarded door leads to the passage beneath a boarded panel and a similar arch. Four similar windows are located on the first floor. There is a plain wooden eaves board. The gables are coped with shaped kneelers. End stacks are present, and the one on the right has been heightened to align with the adjacent property.
