Description
This is an early to mid-18th century house and former shop, located on the south side of High Street in Snaith. It has been altered in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and a 20th-century garage door has been added. The building is constructed of brick, whitewashed to the front, and has a clay tile roof. The plan originally comprised three rooms, with a lobby entry to the left of centre; the left-hand room was formerly a shop, and the right-hand room is now a garage.
The house is two storeys high with an attic, and has four first-floor windows. It features a moulded plinth and a 20th-century glazed door within an architrave, set beneath a segmental header arch. A double-bowed former shop front features panelled pilasters flanking a blocked central entrance and 20th-century replacement bow windows with glazing bars, all beneath a bowed entablature and hood. To the right is a 16-pane flush sash window and a 20th-century garage door, both beneath a timber lintel. A three-course band sits below the first floor, with a projecting chamfered upper course. The first floor has 16-pane flush sash windows, and a smaller, original blind opening above the entrance. Rendered courses are visible at the eaves, and a tile-coped gable is on the right. An axial stack is present, and a small attic opening is visible on the left return. This building exhibits group value in its contribution to the streetscape.
