Description

The altar tomb, located approximately 10 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Lawrence, is a Grade II listed structure made of ashlar and dates from 1765 to 1797. It features three adjoining inscribed slabs. The first slab commemorates Catherine Brant, who died in 1794, and includes a carved frieze with winged cherub heads, along with later inscriptions. The second slab is dedicated to Thomas Frickley, who died in 1765, and also has later inscriptions. The third slab honors John Frickley, who died in 1797. The inscriptions on these slabs are notable for their distinctive style.
