Description
Burlington House is a former Poor Law Institution built in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of yellow brick and features hipped roofs made of Welsh slate. The building consists of two blocks, each one storey high, located at the front of the forecourt. Each block has five windows, with one window blocked, and they are fitted with hung sashes that include glazing bars. The ends of the blocks are accentuated by paired brick pilasters. There is a cross wing that is two storeys tall, designed similarly but with segmental-headed windows and a band between the storeys. The building has undergone various later additions and alterations. Burlington House is part of a group with No 24 Marton Road, which is of local interest.
