Description

Oak House is a house, now used as a cinema and shops, dating to circa 1690. It is constructed of brown and red brick in an English garden wall bond, with a timber eaves cornice and a pantiled roof. The building follows an "E" shaped plan, with two storeys and attics across five bays. A chamfered plinth is visible on the front elevation. The ground floor features 20th-century cinema and shop fronts. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars and sills, each set within a flat, gauged brick arch. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the building, with a low pediment above the central bay. Two pedimented roof dormers contain four-pane sashes. The roof is hipped, and features 20th-century axial stacks.
