Description

The stable and pigeon cote, located approximately 20 meters north-west of Gowdall Hill Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brown brick and features a Yorkshire slate roof for the pigeon cote and a pantile roof for the lower stable section. The building is rectangular in shape and forms the north side of a fold-yard.

It consists of a low, two-storey, three-bay stable, with the southern bay rising to a tall two-storey pigeon cote. The south side has segmental-arched doors and part-glazed slatted wooden ventilation hatches, along with three first-floor hatches for the stable. The lower stable section has a dentilled brick eaves cornice, while the pigeoncote features a two-course brick band at the same level. The pigeoncote includes a single first-floor hatch with a projecting slate shelf at sill level, a dentilled brick eaves cornice, and stone-coped gables with shaped kneelers. There is a row of three pigeon holes and a shelf on the right gable of the pigeoncote.

On the north side, there is a pair of segmental arched doors, a single ground-floor hatch for the stable, and a row of six breathers. It also has a first-floor door, along with a similar eaves cornice and brick band as seen on the pigeoncote.
