Description

Wold Newton Hall is a house dating from the early 19th century, with an extension added in 1904, reputedly designed by Temple Moore. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings, and has slate roofs. The main elevation, facing the garden, is three storeys high with three bays. The design is symmetrical, with the central bay projecting forward as a two-storey, three-window canted bay extending the full height of the house. A stone staircase leads to the central entrance door, which has raised and fielded panels. The remaining windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set in plain surrounds with stone sills, and each is topped by a gauged brick flat arch. A coped parapet disguises the low-pitched triple-span roof, which has hips to the main elevation and coped gables to the rear. Chimneys are located in the roof valleys. The rear elevation has an irregular arrangement of windows. The extension to the left comprises two storeys and three bays, connected to the main house by a lower, two-bay wing of matching design. The ground floor of the extension features a sash door to the right and two sash windows, all with glazing bars in plain surrounds under relieving arches with raised stone key-blocks. Stone sills and bands are also present. The first floor has three sash windows with glazing bars and stone lintel bands. The extension has external chimneys and raised gables with shaped stone kneelers set on corbelled-out brickwork. The interior was not inspected.
