Description

The lamp standard in front of The Hall is a late Georgian cast iron structure, dating from after 1826, and is believed to have been made by William Crosskill of Beverley. It features a square, stepped base with a stilted arch on each face of the lower step, and a wreath on each face of the upper step. The column rises from an octagonal step and is designed in the form of a fasces-minus-axehead, symbolizing a disused weapon of war. Above a narrow collar, the column is topped with a modern copper gas-type lantern.
