Description

Rowland Hall is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring stone dressings, and has roofs made of concrete tiles and slate. The building has a central hallway entry flanked by service wings. It stands two stories tall with three bays, including an advanced central gabled bay, and single-storey, two-bay service wings. Access is via steps leading to a six-panel door that is topped by a radial glazed fanlight, set within a doorcase adorned with attached Doric columns, dooserets, and an open pediment.

On the left side, there are 16-pane sash windows, while the right side has 4-pane sashes. A first-floor band runs along the main house. The service wings feature hipped roofs and end stacks. On the first floor, there are 16-pane sashes in the centre and left, and a 4-pane sash on the right. All windows have keyed wedge lintels, and there is an oval oculus in the gable.

Inside, there is an open-string staircase with turned balusters and a modillion cornice in the hall. The sitting room is lavishly decorated, featuring a fireplace with paired attached columns that have palm leaf capitals and a foliage motif in the spaces between. This fireplace carries a frieze with a central plaque depicting Roman figures in relief, flanked by panels with reliefs of fox heads and hunting horns above festoons, and outer panels with medallions that possibly represent wood sprites. The room also has an oak leaf cornice, a dado rail, and plain panelling. The fireplace is flanked by round-arched alcoves with reeded pilasters, foliage, dentilled friezes, and guilloches on the soffit of the arches. The ceiling cornice features acanthus leaves, dentils, and paterae, while an elaborate ceiling rose displays festoons, paterae, and radial foliage motifs.
