Keeper'S Cottage And Adjoining Garden Walls Approximately 200 Metres South-East Of Winestead Hall Hospital Office And Service Block

Keeper's Cottage and the adjoining garden walls, located approximately 200 metres south-east of Winestead Hall Hospital office and service block, date from the early to mid-18th century and were built for the Hildyard Estate. The cottage is constructed of brick with a pantile roof and features a two-room central lobby-entry plan with a later rear outshut. It is a single storey with an attic and has two windows. The entrance has a segmental head and includes a recessed six-fielded-panel door, flanked by a basket-arched window to the right with a 12-pane sash beneath an oak lintel, and a window to the left beneath an inserted lintel and a blocked arch. The raised gables show tumbled-in brickwork, and there is an axial stack with single attic windows in the gables. Inside, the cottage contains six-fielded-panel doors, beamed ceilings, and a trenched purlin roof. The garden walls are made of brick with brick and ashlar coping, enclosing two rectangular gardens. Each side features projecting pedestrian gateways with board doors beneath segmental arches and moulded ashlar cornices, along with projecting square piers. The later adjoining outbuildings at the north-east corner are not of special interest.
