Description
This is a house, numbers 25 and 25A, built around 1760 by Priestman and Clarkson. It is a three-storey building constructed of red brick, with a pantile roof, and tumbled brickwork to the gable ends, which have moulded kneelers. A wooden dentil cornice runs along the top, with a later 19th-century gutter added above it. The front has six windows, some of which are blind, and an arched doorway to a side passage, flanked by stone impost blocks and a triple keystone. The windows now feature a central glazing bar, have gauged heads, and stone sills. The central doorway has a wooden casing with a moulded, shouldered architrave, a pulvinated frieze, and two square terminal blocks, topped by a dentil cornice and a pediment. The front door itself is made of six panels and has a fanlight above. Wrought iron guard rails with scrapers are also present. Inside, the staircase has an open string, columnar newels, a moulded handrail and turned balusters. A door in the hall has a moulded and shouldered architrave. A ground floor room features a moulded plaster ceiling cornice.
