Description
38 Highgate is an early 18th-century building, possibly altered by J Robinson around 1740. It has two storeys and attics, constructed of red brick with a pantile roof featuring tumbled brickwork at the gable end. The façade includes three pedimented dormers with sliding sash windows, a modillion brick eaves cornice, and five windows with original glazing and gauged brick heads, matching the doorway. There is a brick cill band on the first floor topped with a thin stone cope. A slightly later two-storey wing, one window wide, mirrors the main building's details with minor variations. Inside, the staircase features a closed string, plain newels, a simply moulded handrail, and turned balusters. One ground floor room contains a niche cupboard with shaped shelves, window seats, and a cellar door with two fielded panels. This well-preserved building faces the Minister across an open space and was formerly the Blue Coat School.
