Description
Town End Farm is a house dating from the mid-18th century, and is attributed to the architect John Carr of York. It is constructed of brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a Roman tile roof. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. Three large, round-headed arched recesses extend the full height of the house. The central doorway has six raised and fielded panels above a glazed overlight with glazing bars; it is flanked by sixteen-pane sash windows with sills, all set under flat, gauged brick arches. The first floor has a twelve-pane sash window above the door and sixteen-pane sash windows at the ends, all with sills and segmental brick heads. A modillion brick cornice runs along the eaves, and there are stacks at the ends of the building, with plain close verges.
To the right of the main house is a single-story outbuilding. It is square in plan and features a round-headed arch with an impost band to the front elevation, a modillion brick cornice, and a pyramidal roof. A boarded opening with a sill is present. An outbuilding to the left is of similar design, but with an altered opening, a modillion brick cornice, and a hipped roof.
