Description
The Old Friary, located on Beverley Friars Lane, is a Grade II* listed building that underwent significant remodelling in the 16th century, originally founded by the Dominicans in 1210. This two-storey structure is built of brick and stone and was undergoing extensive restoration at the time of the survey. The main facade faces south and features projecting wings at right angles at each end. The gable ends of the wings display tumbled brickwork, with one wing adorned with a diaper pattern made from sunk bricks. The roof is covered with pantiles, and there are several long and short quoins in brick, along with several blocked openings. Inside, there are notable features, including a panelled room dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century. Photographs documenting the building's pre-restoration condition are available in the National Monuments Record.
