Description
This is a First World War pillbox, likely built in 1917. It is constructed from in-situ poured reinforced concrete and has a rectangular plan.
The pillbox is semi-sunken and located near the exit off Auburn Beach to the south. It features doorways on the west and east walls, indicating it was probably part of a trench system allowing access from both ends. The door jambs are notched to accommodate timber door frames. The north and south walls each have three externally splayed rifle embrasures, while the west and east end walls have two each. The flat concrete roof slab includes three circular vents created by cut sections of ceramic pipe.
Inside, the doorways are partially blocked, and the floor is covered in debris. The walls are smooth concrete with visible horizontal plank shuttering marks, and there are no internal features or fittings.
