Description
This is a First World War pillbox for riflemen, likely built in 1917. It is made of in-situ poured reinforced concrete and has a square plan.
The pillbox is located at the southwest corner of an enclosed thicket and faces east towards the sea. It features a doorway in the west (rear) wall, while the other three walls each have one narrow-splayed rifle embrasure. The door jambs are notched to accommodate a timber door frame, and the roof consists of a flat concrete slab. There is a concrete-filled sandbag against the west wall, which may be a remnant of a sandbag covering that provided additional protection to the structure.
Inside, the floor is covered with a layer of mud. The walls have smooth concrete surfaces with horizontal plank shuttering witness marks, and there are no internal features or fittings.
