Description
The stable block at Hesslewood, dated 1765, is a two-storey structure built from red brick with stone dressings and graduated slate roofs. The main range has three bays and is flanked by slightly lower, recessed wings that also have three bays.
On the ground floor of the main range, there are three large openings with impost bands and elliptical gauged brick arches, which are now blocked. To the right and left, there are 6-pane sash windows. The first floor features a boarded taking-in door on the left and a 6-pane sash window on the right, both under flat gauged brick arches. In the center, there is a sundial set on a round-headed block, inscribed with "JP 1765". The building has a dentilled brick and moulded stone eaves cornice and a hipped roof.
The right and left wings are similar in design. The right wing has a central boarded door with an overlight featuring vertical glazing bars, flanked by 6-pane windows, all beneath flat gauged brick arches. The first floor has two blocked openings and a dentilled brick eaves cornice, with a hipped roof. The left wing mirrors this design but includes a 20th-century garage entrance at the extreme left.
