Description

The walls and gate piers to the north, east, and west of the walled garden at Burton Agnes Hall, which also abut the gatehouse, date from around 1600 with later additions and alterations. They are constructed from pinkish-orange brick in English garden wall bond, featuring ashlar dressings. The walls are approximately 3 metres high and have a stepped design, forming an inverted U-shape with an extension to the west that connects to the gatehouse.

The walls include a moulded plinth, a dentil cornice, and bell-shaped rubbed brick copings, except for the north wall of the walled garden, which has pilaster buttresses and ashlar copings. There are two entrances to the walled garden on the north wall: one is an inserted flat-headed entrance in the north-west corner with an 18th-century wrought-iron gate, and the other features a cambered head between square piers topped with pyramidal finials, with a wrought-iron gate in between. Additionally, to the west of the walled garden, there is a blocked elliptically-arched opening.
