Description
The ruins of a walled garden lie to the northwest of Bostock Hall. These walls date primarily from the 18th century, with additions and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. Constructed of red English garden wall bond brick, much of the walling is rendered, with ashlar dressings. The walls enclose a rectangular area and stand approximately 10 to 14 feet high, topped with ashlar and cement block coping. The northwestern wall was rebuilt in the late 19th century, incorporating a range of outbuildings on its outer face. A central gateway is visible on the inner face as a cambered headed opening with a stucco surround designed to resemble chamfered rustication, topped with a ramped gable and a semi-circular top with a patera at its centre. The other three sides each have a central gateway, flanked by substantial 20th-century square brick piers capped with reset stone balls. The walls are ashlared to their outer lower faces, except for the northwestern wall.
