Description
No 11 and 11A at Wednesday Market is a mid-18th century building that stands two storeys high with attics, constructed of brick and topped with a slate roof. It features two sloped dormers set behind a parapet and has a brick cornice. The façade includes six windows with painted brick voussoirs and no glazing bars, along with two modern shop fronts, one of which cuts the corner. There is a round-headed passage entry, and the gable end is rendered with one window above two.
Inside, the building boasts a painted ceiling and 16th-century panelling that has been reused in the servants' quarters following a remodel. The staircase is notable for its plain square newels, a moulded handrail, closed string, and vase-shaped balusters. There is a chimney piece from around 1770 featuring a Carron grate, as well as another bolection moulded chimney piece. Various 18th-century doors are also present. The shopfront, dating from around 1900, is likely by William Hawe and is constructed from approximately 16th-century moulded timbers.
